Lixie Makes It is the website of Alex Byrne. I am a quilt/textile artist and maker in Oakland California. I am originally from the UK, living and working in London for more than 20 years before moving to Tokyo in Japan and then the San Francisco area. I've taught in all three countries and studied artists from around the world.
After time at the Kent Institute of Art & Design (now "University for the Creative Arts" in the UK) my career took me into science and big-tech where I learned about e-commerce, project management and event organization. I continued to create and teach classes in sewing, embroidery, knitting and crochet. I am currently developing a range of iron-on quilt labels which you can see at dontbemakerunknown.com. I also consult with artists to help them increase their visibility online and to develop new and additional income streams related to their art. At the same time I continue to create and exhibit my work.
